Don’t let the pollsters erase us!

This is ridiculous: Quinnipiac University just released a new poll of the Maine Senate race that not only failed to account for ranked-choice voting - it didn’t include Lisa Savage at all.

Now the media is reporting this outrageously inaccurate poll across the country, completely erasing Lisa’s grassroots campaign and ranked-choice voting from the story of Maine’s Senate race.

We can’t let them get away with this. Help us stand up against the polling blackout - sign and share our petition to include Lisa in the polls, then sign up to write a letter to the editor asking the media to stop publishing misleading polls that exclude independents!

Last week, an AARP poll found 6% of Maine voters were already planning to rank Lisa first - and that was before her breakout performance in the first debate introduced her to thousands of new voters who hadn’t heard of her from the media.

We know that Lisa’s support is growing from the flood of new donors, volunteers, and supporters that have been coming in since the debate. That makes it even more outrageous that the first poll released after the debate is erasing her from the narrative.

Yesterday on Twitter, Justin B wrote: “I spoke with someone that was recently polled in Maine. 4 times, she told the pollster she was voting for @LisaForMaine, and they STILL asked her who she was voting for. They only gave options for Susan or Sara. Don't believe the #RiggedPolls.”

Betsy G replied: “I got the same poll. It was a push poll for Gideon. I just kept telling her ‘neither’... I also asked her ‘who is paying for this push poll’ - she replied ‘the company’”.

This is just wrong. The people of Maine voted for ranked-choice voting twice so that we could have elections with more independent choices. Polls that only include 2 candidates are inaccurate and biased, especially in a ranked-choice voting race.

The purpose of polls should be to honestly gauge voters’ support, not to influence public opinion by artificially limiting their choices.

Erasing Lisa Savage from the polls disrespects the voters by feeding them a false narrative that there are only 2 candidates in this race. When the media uncritically reports these “push polls”, it reinforces bias against grassroots campaigns like ours, in favor of big-money establishment candidates who already get vastly more media coverage thanks to their massive fundraising and relentless ad campaigns.

In a democracy, voters deserve to choose from all the candidates on their ballot, not have their choices limited by big polling agencies.

Sign our petition to tell pollsters: stop manufacturing a false narrative in Maine’s Senate race with misleading polls, and put Lisa Savage in the polls!

After you sign, please take a moment to help maximize our collective impact by sharing the petition from the Lisa for Maine Facebook page and Twitter account.

Then sign up to write a letter to the editor exposing these biased polls, and we’ll get in touch to make sure you have what you need to get a letter published in your local paper.

In gratitude,
