This is outrageous: we just found out that WMTW (ABC Channel 8) has been secretly planning a debate in Maine’s Senate race that will lock out Lisa Savage. When we contacted WMTW to ask about the debate, they immediately referred us to their lawyer, who informed us that WMTW decided Lisa’s campaign was not “newsworthy” and challenged us to take them to court.
We can’t take this lying down, but we don’t have big money or high-priced lawyers - all we have is you.
After you sign and share the petition, please call WMTW at 207-835-3888 and let them know that you want Lisa Savage included in their Senate debate.
Then sign up on our volunteer page if you’re willing to write a letter to the editor or take other action to make sure Lisa’s voice is heard.
This is an outrageous attack on our campaign - an attempt to shut Lisa out of the final debate before people go to vote on Election Day.
Lisa is the only candidate in this race who has spoken out in the previous debates for real, important changes we need like Medicare for All and a Demilitarized Green New Deal. The corporate media may not like her message, but that doesn’t give them the right to interfere with our democratic process.
We've filed a complaint with the FEC, but justice doesn't always move quickly for independent campaigns like ours that aren’t connected to big-money political machines.
The people of Maine voted for ranked-choice voting twice to have elections with more voices and more choices. Mainers have a proud tradition of independent politics. Trying to arrange an exclusive two-person debate that would shut out an independent voice like Lisa Savage is disrespectful to democracy and the people of Maine.
In a democracy, voters deserve to hear from all the candidates on their ballot so they can make an informed decision. Just because the establishment campaigns have raised over a hundred million dollars doesn’t mean they should be allowed to silence grassroots candidates like Lisa Savage.
After you sign and share, call WMTW at 207-835-3888 and let them know that you want Lisa included in their debate.
Then sign up on our volunteer page to let us know you’re willing to write a letter to the editor or take other action to make sure Lisa’s voice is heard.
Stay tuned for next steps - again, we are NOT taking this lying down.
Thanks for all you do to help build this unstoppable movement for real democracy!
